how does a vermicomposter work?

Charles* answers your questions

*The team's vermicomposting expert
What does the vermicomposter do for houseplants?

Compost worms, such as Eisenia Foetida, and other microorganisms work to break down bio-waste, transforming it into nutrient-rich vermicompost. These nutrients are then absorbed by plant roots for growth. That's why Ceercle a two-in-one vermicomposter: your kitchen waste is transformed into natural fertilizer. In addition to nourishing the soil, the worm composter maintains constant humidity around the plants, reducing the need for watering.

What kind of waste can I put in a worm compost bin?

In your vermicomposter, you can place:
Food waste such as fruit and vegetable scraps, herbs, peelings and eggshells.
Recyclable paper materials such as paper rolls, egg cartons and newspapers.
Organic waste such as coffee grounds and tea bags.

What are your worm composters made of?

Ceercle worm composters Ceercle made of terracotta. Terracotta pots play a crucial role in regulating temperature, protecting roots from heat and cold variations throughout the year. Their natural porosity promotes air and water circulation, allowing roots to breathe more easily. Although heavier than plastic pots, their weight provides additional stability, which is particularly important on a windy balcony. We also add a special coating to protect the terracotta in case of frost.

What's the difference between a composter and a vermicomposter?

Classic composters and vermicomposters are very different! The vermicomposter has the advantage of being odorless, thanks to the aeration provided by the worms, thus eliminating unpleasant decomposition odors. Easy to maintain, it adapts to all seasons without the need for moistening or turning, since the worms do all the work. What's more, vermicompost is more nutritious than conventional compost, as the worms' digestion of the waste makes it stable and easily assimilated by plants. In comparison, conventional compost, which requires fermentation, has a less stable composition and a less rich loam, up to 7 times less than that of the vermicompost.
