About Ceercle composters
Ceercles are made from terracotta, a material that's 100% natural, healthy, mineral ... and aesthetically pleasing! The terracotta pot also plays a temperature-regulating role. It protects roots from both heat and cold, whatever the season. Its natural porosity also allows air and water to circulate, and roots to breathe more easily.
We searched all over Europe for our rare gem, and it was in Portugal that we found our potter with golden hands.
The balcony vegetable garden (with small pockets) allows you to plant 10 more plants than the flower composter—15 plants in total. You can plant any type of plant (except those with large roots). We recommend selecting your plants based on the environment in which your Ceercle will be placed Ceercle outdoor or indoor plants).
Unlike the composter vegetable garden, the balcony vegetable garden only includes a base and the vegetable garden level. The composting volume is smaller than in the composter vegetable garden.
Finally, the kitchen composter can only be used for composting; it cannot be used for growing plants.
It is indeed possible to place your Ceercle vegetable garden Ceercle , provided that it is near a source of light (window, bay window).
After a long period of research and development, our engineer has come up with a solution. We have a silica coating! This allows you to water your terracotta at very low (or even negative) temperatures. If you live in a region with extreme temperatures, and even if we have an antifreeze coating, it's best to use a winter cover in winter if it's -10°C!
We recommend watering a little at a time, letting the soil soak in before continuing to water.
It is possible to order a floor flower, composter or vegetable garden.
The base not only raises the composter, but also integrates the dish. The cup collects the compost tea. Compost tea is a powerful 100% natural fertilizer. Remember to dilute it before watering your plants with it!
About vermicomposting
Have you received your vermicomposter and worms? Here are our tips and to get your vermicomposter off to a good start.. In short, take it easy and start with a handful of cardboard and organic waste.
Our product is a vegetable garden composter, as it contains both a growing area for gardening ("vegetable garden" section) and an integrated worm compost bin in its center ("composter" section). Compost worms break down bio-waste (peelings, cardboard, etc.) in the vermicomposting column, fertilizing the surrounding soil and producing better harvests.
Compost worms (Eisenia Foetida) and other microorganisms break down organic waste and transform it into vermicompost. This compost is rich in nutrients that plant roots absorb for nourishment. This is why Ceercle a self-fertilizing vegetable garden: your peelings become fertilizer. In addition to fertilizing your soil, the vermicomposter provides constant moisture to the vegetable garden and reduces the need for watering.
Start by making sure your compost is mature. This article may help you.
For a balcony vegetable garden (without a compost bin): we recommend separating the vegetable garden section from the base section, then using a shovel or tablespoon to collect the compost from the hollow base. The contents of the column are well compacted and structured by roots and other coarse elements, so they should not fall out.
For other models: simply collect your compost from the dedicated level by accessing it through the cork on the front of the composter.
Generally , there are not many worms in mature compost because there is not much left to eat in it. If you find a few, pick them up and place them at the top of the column.
The first compost harvest takes place approximately 4 months after installing your Ceercle the compost is collected every 2 to 3 months.
Compost tea is the liquid you can collect in the cup in the base. It's important to dilute it to avoid burning the plants(about 20 cl per liter of water). You can use it once a week. Discover our detailed article on harvesting and using compost tea.
The secret of compost is the balance between wet materials (peelings, coffee grounds, etc.) and dry materials (cardboard, paper, etc.). We often forget that cardboard is very important: it aerates the vermicompost, regulates humidity and makes great bedding for the worms: it's where they reproduce. For better digestion of bio-waste, cut it into small pieces. Vermicompost is more efficient than compost, but also more sensitive. Avoid adding animal matter (milk, meat), fats (oil, leftovers), citrus fruits and alliums (garlic, onions, leeks, chives, etc.), which have vermifuge properties. To find out more our article on what you can put in a vermicomposter.
It's not advisable to put your pets' litter in the compost. In fact, this leads to unpleasant odours and poses a risk to the worms, as it is made up of bacteria. The addition of animal dejecta can also harm the compost's equilibrium. To find out more our article on what you can put in a worm compost bin.
Our R&D tests have shown that a single tier of our vegetable garden composter absorbs around 40 kg of peelings and cardboard per year. This is an average figure which may vary according to the season: spring and autumn are the worms' most active seasons, while in summer and winter they slow down their metabolism and absorb waste more slowly. Just remember that, on average, 1 floor = 1 person, 2 floors = 2 people, 3 floors = 3 people or a family with 2 children ... and above all: 0 fertilizer!
The Flower composter can process 30 to 50 kg of bio-waste per year. The kitchen composter can process 30 to 40 kg and the self-fertilizing vegetable garden 15 kg.
About compost worms
To check that there are still worms, you can take 2 large handfuls from one of your floors; there should be worms in them.
For older models: If the compost tea is no longer flowing, also check that the cork is not blocked.
Worms are generally found at the bottom of the compost, moving around according to their food source, and fearing noise and light.
If you've given up hope, you can always order new compost worms.
Terracotta helps regulate temperature. It protects roots and worms from both heat and cold, whatever the season. Your worms are therefore much better protected than in a plastic worm composter.
In the event of heavy frost, we recommend bringing the Ceercle .
You can optionally purchase a 500g bag of compost worms containing a starter colony. This is the ideal amount to start a Ceercle composter, regardless of its size. The worm population will adapt according to the food supply and the seasons. For example, worm activity will slow down a little in winter. To learn more about starting a worm composter, check out our dedicated article.
You can leave them in the bag for up to 1 week after receiving them. To ensure their survival, you can put them in a bucket (ideally with a lid) with 1 or 2 cm ofcardboard cut out at the bottom and top, along with a few peelings to feed them. Place your bucket in a cool place. Make sure you open the lid regularly.
Indeed, worms sometimes take refuge in the corners of your Ceercle. There may be several reasons for this: your compost may be too wet or too cold, prompting the worms to seek shelter elsewhere. They may also be lacking food! Remember to add food regularly, especially during cold periods, as they will need a warm shelter!
About plants and vegetation
Thanks to our R&D efforts, we have been able to collect yield data by variety and by season. A single level of our Ceercle vegetable gardens Ceercle an average Ceercle :

Light plays a major role in plant development. It's all a question of choosing the right varieties to plant. We do, however, recommend finding a location in part shade rather than full shade. Follow our step-by-step guide to setting up a vegetable garden in the shade.
We recommend watering once or twice a week. There are several clues as to whether or not it's time to water: the condition of your plants, the moisture content of the potting soil... Stick a finger of one fingertip into the potting soil, can you feel any moisture? If not, water!

About bugs and diseases

Rest assured, compost doesn't emit unpleasant odors. It even smells like undergrowth when properly balanced. Nuisances (odors, midges, etc.) are generally caused by excess humidity and a lack of oxygen in the environment. Respecting the balance between dry matter (such as cardboard) and wet matter (such as peelings) will prevent this type of nuisance. We advise you to add small pieces of cardboard in greater proportion than peelings for a few weeks, always keeping the composting column closed with the clay lid to prevent new flies from laying eggs. If possible, avoid adding fruit during this time, as it ferments and its sugar attracts flies. Adding coffee and tea grounds to the composter and top soil releases substances that repel flies and midges. You can also place traps near the composter.
Drain flies or psychodes :
These little beasts can be found in drains, sinks, small water reservoirs etc. They lay their eggs in organic matter, but do not cause damage to your plants or worms. However, they can be a nuisance. In your case, there are two solutions: either you remove the top part of your compost to prevent them from reproducing, or you stop adding organic waste for 1 to 2 weeks and add cardboard and remember to cover the composting column with the clay plug provided for this purpose.
As with flies, parasites like mosquitoes won't come if your compost is well balanced between dry matter (cardboard) and wet matter (peelings). Always remember to close the composting column tightly to prevent them from laying eggs inside.
What are they?
These little beasts are springtailsThey're real composting pros. Their presence at the top of the column is not a problem, as they often move around in search of food. It's an indicator of good compost health.
This is the Leucocoprinus birnbaumiia fungus that is harmless to your plants. If they bother you, simply pull them out and aerate the soil surface by turning it over a little with a fork, to try and eliminate the developing young.
Be sure to keep the compost moist enough, as ants prefer dry soil!
Setting traps near the composter can also be a solution.
Indeed, the presence of mold is not a bad sign, but it can be controlled to maintain a balance. The advice given by our Ceerclers is the right one: a little cardboard to regulate humidity, a little surface stirring to break up the covering effect, and everything should fall back into place!
