Here's a DIY that will delight your kids: color Easter eggs with your peelings! 🐇

A simple, fun activity to do with your chicks, for a colorful & zero-waste egg hunt! 🐣

Vegetable dyes from peelings

Did you know that you could create dyes from leftover fruit and vegetables?

You can achieve a beautiful range of colors:

💛 Yellow: carrot tops, fig leaves.

🧡 Orange: onion peel.

💚 Green: spinach, mint, parsley.

💙 Blue to violet: lavender, red cabbage.

❤️ Pink to red: beet peels, avocado skins and pits.

How to prepare plant tinctures

Depending on the peelings at your disposal, prepare several vegetable dyes for your eggs:

  • In a saucepan, bring half a liter of water to the boil.
  • Add the peelings of your choice.
  • Simmer for about 20 minutes. The water will colour.
  • Filter the water and pour into a container.
  • Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of white vinegar.

How to dye Easter eggs

  • To empty the eggs, drill a small hole at each end of the egg and blow gently.
  • Immerse the eggs in the dye of your choice.
  • Leave to colour for at least 30 minutes.
  • Remove the eggs and leave to dry.

That's all there is to it, and you've got pretty, colorful eggs!
