It's not always easy to tell the difference between parsley and coriander plants! To recognize them
Observe their leaves: coriander leaves are more rounded, while parsley leaves are pointed.
Rub their leaves between your fingers. Coriander has a powerful, distinctive fragrance!
If in doubt, taste the leaves 😉
Water your lettuces regularly to keep the soil moist. Don't let them wilt! Avoid watering the leaves if possible to prevent disease. Mulch to keep the soil moist and reduce watering.
Watch out for snails and slugs, which are particularly fond of tender young lettuce shoots!
Ceercle tip Ceercle while your plants are small and fragile, don't hesitate to place glass jars over your lettuces to protect them. This will protect your plants from snails and slugs while they grow and become large enough to resist their attacks! Remember to lift the jar from time to time to allow for ventilation.
There are several ways to harvest lettuces:
1. Remove the larger leaves from the sides as you go along. This way, your lettuce will continue to grow. After several harvests, it will eventually go to seed.
2. Cut the leaves off the plant halfway up, leaving the core intact. This will allow the plant to strengthen and bush over.
3. Harvest the whole lettuce once it is well developed. Use a knife to make a clean cut at the crown.
A recipe to try: coriander pesto
Ingredients:
- 1 bunch fresh coriander
- 6 to 8 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves
- 80 g pistachios
- Optional: 50g Parmesan cheese
You can replace the pistachios with almonds, hazelnuts or pine nuts, as you wish.
Recipe:
⏱️ Preparation time: 5 minutes.
Add all your ingredients, except the oil, to a blender. Blend to a smooth paste. Gradually add the olive oil until you reach the desired consistency (to obtain a more or less liquid pesto). Mix well. Your pesto is ready!
Serve pesto as a sauce for pasta, as a dressing for salads, or as a side dish for fish and meat. Enjoy!
If necessary, store your pesto in the refrigerator for up to a week.
